Founded in 1986 by Ida Ayu Agung Mas, Sua Bali was initially created as a small scale experiment in the art of alternative tourism. It was a response to the realisation that tourism was in fact becoming a detrimental force in the Balinese community and environment, and this in turn refracted back to the tourists' experiences. Starting with eight Balinese style bungalows, Sua Bali opened quietly to a select few travellers who demonstrated an authentic and respectful curiosity about Bali.
Based on the success of these early years, Sua Bali is now opening its doors to the intelligent tourist who wishes to experience Bali as it can be:
a meaningful, harmonious place in which to learn about, participate in and contribute to this unique culture.
